Director of Development & Communication

The Director of Development & Communication shall have:
• Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in communications, marketing, fund development or a related field. CFRE designation desirable.
• Proven track record in raising funds in the not-for-profit sector.
• At least five years experience in fund development and marketing.
• Sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the community.
• Knowledge and experience with constituency development and cultivation, donor solicitation strategies, proposal writing, direct mail, special events, planned giving, estate planning, capital campaigns, and gift processing, management and reporting.
• Experience in management in a not-for-profit setting.
• Knowledge and experience in developing marketing materials, and in communicating effectively in writing and orally.
• Knowledge and experience in working with donor/donation management systems (Network for Good), website management software (Wix), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher).
• The ability to fulfill all of the regulatory requirements for employees of Child Welfare Agencies as are prescribed in Illinois Administrative Rule and Procedure, including successful completion of the criminal background investigation, clearance from the Illinois CANTS and Iowa Registry, and certification as a driver of children by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
• Ability to transport self and access to an automobile.

The Director of Development & Communication shall:
• Enhance the visibility of the agency in the community by:
o Developing effective marketing materials including newsletters, annual reports, brochures, and other promotional materials.
o Participation in community public events.
o Keeping the public informed about agency activities and events by maintaining good relationships with the print and electronic media and insuring that the agency receives frequent and favorable press.
o Assisting the President as a community liaison.
• Increase the financial resources of the agency by:
o Planning and implementing a fund development program.
o Identifying potential donor/prospects, researching and segmenting donor/prospect needs, interests, and goals with the agency's needs, developing a plan for contact, and coordinating the solicitation of all prospects.
o Planning and coordinating annual appeals, special events, planned giving programs, and capital campaigns.
o Proving leadership, education, and support to agency volunteers in the fund development process.
o Maintaining the agency database of donors.
o Recruiting volunteers to assist in the program.
o Coordinating the Board Development and Marketing Committee.
• Diversify the funding sources of the agency by:
o Assisting other staff in defining potential funding sources for specific programs.
o Writing and/or assisting other staff and volunteers to secure foundation and corporate grants.
• Improve the operations of the agency by:
o Keeping abreast of professional trends through a review of literature and attendance at professional meetings and workshops.
o Recommending appropriate policies and procedures for the effective operation of the agency.
o Developing and managing the marketing/public relations and fundraising budget of the agency.
o Participating as a member of the management team of the agency.
